Questions to ask when watching movies – and soap operas!

Media awareness and critique involves engaging influential contemporary media messages. This includes not only news media and documentaries but also movies and soap operas.

If we are to engage properly with movies and soap operas, we need to ask the right kind of questions. To my knowledge, there is no better guide available than Culture Watch editor and Gimlekollen colleague Tony Watkin’s book Focus: The Art and Soul of Cinema.

I do recommend bying and reading the whole book, but the key resource Questions to ask when watching movies (appendix 1 in the book) is also available online.
